A Young Stallholder's Journey Running a Lunar New Year Market Stall

The Chinese Culture Day organised by our school just before the holidays was absolutely brilliant! We arrived at the playground bright and early. The whole place was beautifully decorated, with bright red lanterns hanging high, creating a wonderful festive atmosphere!

Our P2 stall was particularly bustling. We sold handicrafts: small lanterns adorned with lion-head decorations and adorable festive socks. Classmates and teachers alike came to browse and buy stuff, and sales were absolutely lovely! I was in charge of the till, and every time a customer made a purchase, we felt especially chuffed, like proper little shopkeepers.

The game stalls were great fun too! I took part in the Year of the Horse spinning wheel challenge and the wish-making coin toss game. Completing the challenges earned delicious snacks, tempting me to play several times over!

Later, the whole school joined in a big clean-up. I was assigned to tidy the cupboards. Though a bit tiring, seeing them spotless gave me a real sense of achievement.

Finally, during the awards ceremony, our whole P2 class leapt for joy upon learning we'd won the Grand Sales Prize! Today wasn't just about learning Chinese cultural traditions – running stalls and buying New Year decorations taught us valuable money management skills too! I truly hope the school organises this event again next year! Wishing everyone a prosperous Year of the Horse! May all your wishes come true!
